About the project:
The client has an English Information Memorandum that needs to be translated into simplified Chinese
for printing. This memorandum is designed by the latest version of In Design - In Design CC and it includes lots of graphics and tables. The client sends us the source INDD file with the PDF. After the translation, it also needs to be nicely layouted and kept the same format as the English one.
CCJK’s localization team made a professional and careful analysis on the source file, and found it is designed using In Design CC. Once we get the indd file, we downloaded the lasted version In Design CC and prepared the files by converting it to idml format and then import it to Trados Studio, so all of the format can be kept and translators won’t break up the tags.
After the file well prepared, we assigned the translation job to our seasoned translators with the related experiences. They referred to the PDF file as a visual reference. When doing the translation, they saved each translation in the TM, when it comes to the same sentences, the translations can be populated automatically, so the translation throughout the file can be consistent for sure.
To ensure the highest quality of the Memorandum that is ready for printing, we have assigned not only one translator, but at least 3 translators for the translation. We translate from scratch by a linguist, then pass the translated documents to another editor for reviewing, and finally to a 3rd proofreader for polishing the translation
and to eliminate any errors.
After the translation is done, we take the idml and do the typesetting using InDesign CC. As there are English and simplified Chinese texts included in the file, it is a better and easier way to create some combined fonts. However, the version of InDesign CC cannot support this perfectly, after some research work, we found that we need to install some updates from Adobe, finally, it works well, and when we the indd file to the client, they also can open it perfectly.
