Talking about Tuvaluan, you might be in complete bewilderment: what’s that? Well, let’s learn something about that.

About the Country – Tuvalu

Tuvalu’s former name is The Ellice Islands. It is a Polynesian island nation located in the Pacific Ocean, midway between Hawaii and Australia and surrounded by Kiribati, Nauru, Samoa and Fiji.

It contains four reef islands and five true atolls. The population of 10,472 makes it the third-least populous sovereign state in the world. Tuvalu is the fourth smallest country in the world, for its 26 square kilometres (10 sq mi) of physical land size.

Tuvaluan language

Tuvaluan is a Polynesian language of the Ellicean group spoken in Tuvalu. It is related to all other Polynesian languages, such as Hawaiian, Maori, Tahitian, Samoan, and Tongan distantly, and closely related to the languages spoken on the Polynesian Outliers in Micronesia and Northern and Central Melanesia.

Tuvaluan has borrowed considerably from Samoan, the language of Christian missionaries in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Tuvaluan is spoken by population of about 13,000 worldwide.
