There are many line breaks in ttx file which is converted by DTP file, such as InDesign file, Quark file or FrameMaker file. It is caused by the newlines in the source layout.

Perhaps, you will think it could be a good way to delete these newline and make them in a whole sentence and then convert into ttx file for translation. Actually, the way is ideal, but not practical; you know we need to do the DTP, such way double the workload of DTPist, really nightmare…

Although it really gives the big trouble to our translators, they just need to make line break in target translation accordingly. Of course, in most cases, the sentence order of the source is not same as the one of the target; they also just need to make line break according to the sentence order of target language.

There is another kind of line break which makes thing more troublesome and is not easy to spot out during the translation and make “wrong” translation.

Operating Instructions |Intended Use

The BIOSTAT® CultiBag STR bioreactor may only be used with equipment and under operating conditions described in this equipment documentation.

But the sentence in left and right is mixed up together in the ttx file:

Operating Instructions | The BIOSTAT® CultiBag STR bioreactor may only be used with equipment and under Intended Use operating conditions described in this equipment documentation

As the “mixed up” word don’t affect the meaning of the whole sentence and the translation also seems to be smooth. Such “error” is very easy to escape under the eyes.

All in all, translators should check the source PDF if any issues and get rid of errors in time.

Meanwhile, it is absolutely necessarily to have a round of QA on layout PDF file. Some problems which cannot be found during translation can be easily spotted out in this flow. It is very effective and intuitive way to help us to deliver accurate ready-to- print files.
