I have finished reading the whole collection of Harry Potter and got a lot to share. Strictly speaking, I just read the 6th and 7th book very carefully. So I did not remember much about the plots in the previous five books, but in order to get a better understanding of Professor Snape, I will reread the five books in the future.

Harry compared himself with Voldemort (Tom Riddle) and Severus Snape, then draw a conclusion that much similarity lies in the childhood of the three, all of them took Hogwarts as their home. Everybody knows that Harry is an orphan, so did Voldemort.

Got parents though, Severus was almost neglected for the all-day quarrel and fight between his witch mother and muggle father. That must be one of the reasons for his future being odd and eccentric.

Very few will doubt that Professor Snape wasn’t a death eater for his strong dislike toward Harry and acrimonious nature. He is all the way away from loveliness, pleasure, passion and popularity. Indeed he once the pursuer of Voldemort. However, his love for Lily Evans made him turn his loyalty to Dumbledore. And I very love this sentence from a website (see the reference source):

Following Lily’s murder Snape changes his loyalty from Voldemort to Dumbledore, not because he has renounced the Dark Arts but in a quest for revenge for the murder of the woman he loved— a very strong motivation for a change of allegiance.

It needed great courage to join the order of Phoenix. And it needed much more courage to follow Voldemort and spy on him. Snape is the bravest person I’ve known in this book. Those witches and wizards are too afraid of Voldemort to merely mention his name.

They refer him as you-know-who or he-who-that-must-not-be-mentioned. It is a little like ancient Chinese dared not to mention the emperor’s name. The difference is that ancient Chinese were forbidden to mention and those witches and wizards were too scared.

It is very easy to understand why Snape hated Harry even he promised Dumbledore to protect Lily’s son. James Potter used a Levicorpus spell on Snape, which spell was invented by Snape himself and even James once saved Snape’s life, Snape did not show gratitude but took it as James’ tricks and escaping of punishment. Snape would never get along with James, because they are rival in love. Harry resembled James and only got Lily’s eyes. So no wonder Snap hated Harry so much.

Severus Snape is genius. He is talented in Potions and The Dark Arts. He, the half blood prince improved the method of potions making and invent spells while he was still a student. Moreover, when Dumbledore was hurt by the curse of the Ring, it was Snape who tried to slow down the injury by his vast knowledge in Dark Arts.

Unfortunately, the curse is so strong that the hurt can not be cured, so Dumbledore requested Snape to kill him to end the pain and spare the soul of Draco Malfoy. And Snape accepted that request and did as he was told to.

Finally Snape was killed by Voldemort because Voldemort wanted to possess the Elder Wand. When I was reading about this, I really hate Voldemort’s greed so much. From his childhood, Tom begun to steal things from others, when he grew up, he became greedy and cruel.

Whenever he saw valuable things, he would kill the owner and stole it away. That seems a very terrible and brutal habit of Tom. However, it turned out that Snape wasn’t the owner of the Elder Wand.

There is a famous debate named “The Great Snape Debate”. Fans are gathering together to discuss whether Snape if good or not. Sincerely I do not like Severus Snape in personality, but I still think he is great, especially his love for Lily Evans and his courage to protect Lily’s son.
