Q: What’s happening on June 29?

A: Keep this date free if you’re in the U.S. Apple has confirmed that its

much-awaited iPhone will be launched in the U.S. on June 29. The iPhone,

which combines the features of a mobile phone and a personal digital

assistant, will sell for US$499 or US$599, depending on the configuration.

Its much-touted feature is a completely touch-sensitive interface. Alas, a

release date for Europe and the rest of the world has not been given. Thomas

Husson, senior researcher for the mobile market at Jupiter Research, said:

“The biggest selling points of the iPhone are the Apple brand itself and the

new user interface. Apple has stated it wants to sell 10 million iPhones by

the end of 2008. Thats less than 1% of the total mobile phone market, but it

is a significant target in the smart phone market.” Cisco and Apple had

announced on Feb. 21 that they had resolved their dispute over the iPhone

trademark. Under the agreement, both companies are free to use the iPhone

trademark on their products throughout the world.

Apple
