Introduction of Tongan

Tongan is a kind of west Polynesian language. It’s one of the two official languages of the Kingdom of Tonga (the other official language is English). The natives usually use Tongan, while citizens and government officials prefer to use English.

It is very similar to the languages of Samoan as well as Niue and Uvea (Wallis). Besides the Kingdom of Tonga, Tongan is also used in Eastern Samoa, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the USA, and Vanuatu.

It is an alphabetic language, with the basic word order of VSO (meaning verb-subject-object). In total, there are around 200,000 people using this language.
