Some Common Considerations in the Supervision of Translation

As a resource manager I recognize that it is vital to make assessment of trial translation before determine which translator would be capable of taking the translation job. I would like to share with you guys some details worth paying attention to in translation as “details determine success and failure”.

For title

1. Quotation marks and periods should not be included in the title;

2. The title should be located at Center Top of the document;

3. CAPITALIZE ALL LETTERS or Capitalize the Very First Letter of Each Word in the title;

4. Articles, conjunctions less than 5 words and prepositions should not be capitalized unless they are located in the first of the title.

Translation:

Product Approval Number: Susiyuzi (2008) 170319

2. Source text:

生产许可证:饲预(2009)4392

Translation:

Production Permit: Siyu(2009)4392

3. Source text:

xx楼27xx-27xx 单元

邮编 200001

Translation:

Finance Square

Units 27xx-27xx, xx/F.

No 333 Jiu Jiang Rd, HuangPu District

200001 SHANGHAI

4. Source text:

The Agreement will be executed in two counterparts, each of which shall be deemed an original, but all of which shall together constitute one and the same instrument.

On witness whereof, the parties hereto have caused the Agreement to be executed by their duty authorized representatives as of the date of first signature.
Translation:
本协议一式两份,每份均应视为原件,但两份原件共同构成一份相同的法律文书。

缔约双方已于首次签名所载日期通过其正式授权的代表签订本协议,特此证明。

Special attention:
If any word is capitalized in its first letter in source text (English), the Chinese translation that word should be accordingly marked in bold.

Also, at first glance we might be able to distinguish some of the typical translation error, summarized incompletely as below:

Disagreements, Misplaced Modifiers, Sentence Fragments, Dangling Modifiers, Misuse of Parts of Speech, Ambiguous Reference of Pronouns, Run-on Sentences, Troubles in Diction, Redundancy, Incoherence, Comprehensive Misusage.

By all means you’ll have to identify which the need of type of translation, is it due for translation and publication, or you want the information for promotion and you need the results of machine translation, or you just want to understand generally about the article, etc.

Translation is an industry which needs precise market positioning, you must know for sure the purpose of your translation and then communicate with your resource and client to eliminate unnecessary trouble.
