据新华社电 8 月 2 日,在柏林举行的第 20 届世界翻译大会会员代表大会上,中国文学翻译家许渊冲荣获国际翻译界最高奖项之一——国际翻译家联盟(国际译联) 2014 “北极光”杰出文学翻译奖,成为该奖项 1999 年设立以来首位获此殊荣的亚洲翻译家。93 岁高龄的许渊冲因健康原因未能出席颁奖礼。他在书面发言中说:“从事汉语、英语和法语文学翻译对我而言是种享受。”

According to Xinhua News Agency, on August 2, at the member’s assembly of the 20th World Conference of the Federation of International Translators (FIT), the Chinese literary translator Xu Yuanchong was awarded 2014 “Aurora Borealis” Prize for Outstanding Translation of Fiction Literature by Federation of International Translators (FIT), one of the highest awards in the international translation field and he was the first Asian translator to win the prize since its establishment in 1999. Due to health problems, Xu Yuanchong, aged 93, was unable to attend the ceremony. He said in a written statement, “It’s a wonderful experience for me to work on the Chinese, English and French literary translation.”

评委会在颁奖词中说,“我们所处的国际化环境需要富有成效的交流,许渊冲教授一直致力于为使用汉语、英语和法语的人们建立起沟通的桥梁。他将大量中国文学作品翻译成英文和法文,并将一些重要著作从英、法文翻译成中文”。

The Jury said in the prize announcement, “In an international environment in need of effective communication, Professor Xu Yuanchong has devoted his career to building bridges among Chinese-, English- and French-speaking peoples. He has translated Chinese literature extensively into English and French, as well as having translated major works from Western languages into Chinese.”

出席颁奖典礼的中国译协代表团团长王刚毅说,许渊冲先生获此殊荣实至名归。他是我国老一辈翻译家的杰出代表,终身致力于中英、中法文学翻译,为促进中外文化交流,特别是中国文化国际传播作出了重要贡献。

Wang Gangyi, the head of TAC (Translators Association of China) delegation, attended the ceremony and said Mr. Xu Yuanchong deserved the prize. He said Xu is an outstanding role model of the older generation of translators who devoted his lifetime to Chinese-English and Chinese-French literary translation, and he has made important contributions to the cultural exchanges between China and the globe, especially the international communication of Chinese culture.

许渊冲表示:“作为第一个获此殊荣的中国翻译家,我深感荣幸。我认为这不仅仅是对我个人翻译工作的认可,也表明中国文学受到世界更多的关注。”他说,“93 岁的我还在做翻译,我就是喜欢它。”

Xu Yuanchong said, “It is really an honor to be given the award as a first Chinese translator. I think it not only shows my translation works are recognized by the world personally, but also shows that Chinese literature has attracted more attention worldwide.” He said, “Though aged 93, I am still busy with translation, because I just love it.”

许渊冲现任北京大学新闻与传播学院教授,从事文学翻译工作数十载,至今仍笔耕不辍,计划 5 年内译完莎士比亚全集。他已在国内外出版中、英、法文译著 120 余部,包括《诗经》《楚辞》《唐诗三百首》《宋词选》《西厢记》《红与黑》《包法利夫人》等。他 2010 年获得中国翻译协会颁发的“翻译文化终身成就奖”。

Xu Yuanchong, the current Professor of School of Journalism & Communication, Peking University, has been engaged in the literary translation for decades, and still kept on translating nowadays. He plans to finish the complete works of Shakespeare in five years. His over 120 Chinese, English and French translation works have been published at home and abroad, including the Book of Songs, the Songs of Chu, the Three hundred Poems of the Tang Dynasty, the Anthology of Song Iambic Verse, the Romance of the Western Chamber, the Madame Bouvary and etc.. In 2010, he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award in Translation Culture by Translators Association of China (TAC).

“北极光”杰出文学翻译奖由国际译联设立,旨在推动文学翻译发展改善译文质量。该奖项每 3 年评选一次,每次评选一人。

FIT “Aurora Borealis” Prize for Outstanding Translation of Fiction Literature, established by Federation of International Translators, aims to promote the development of literary translation and improve translation quality. This prize is awarded every three years to one winner.
