1) amount in figures / amount in words (小写金额/大写金额)

Just as its name implies, “amount in figures” means “writing the amount in the form of figures (numbers), while “amount in words” means “writing the amount in the target language (such as CHS/CHT characters). Such expressions are generally found in bank notes.

Pop-up stores are usually set up in the downtown areas or high-traffic people areas by marketers in order to promote their seasonal items or limited edition items.

6) office wife (女秘书或女行政助理)

Office wife is actually a female worker who serves as a secretary or an administrative assistant of a senior manager. It is also called as “office spouse” or “work wife”.

7) maternal profiling (生育歧视)

Material profiling refers to a kind of employment discrimination against a woman who has or will have children. If the female applicants are refused by the employers just because they have children or will have children or the female employees are given with fewer salaries than what they are worthy of just because the same reason, their employers have practiced “maternal profiling”.

8) first-mover advantage (第一波优势/先行者优势/先动优势)

The first-mover advantage refers to the benefits or advantages gained by a company through firstly introducing a kind of new product or service.

9) last-mover advantage (后动优势)

The last-mover advantage refers to the benefits or advantages gained by a company through introducing the same product or service as what the other companies provide in lower cost or with modified features.

10) orange goods (橙色商品)

Consumer goods can be categorized into orange goods, red goods and yellow goods according to their consumption and replacement rate. Orange goods are such consumer goods with a moderate rate of consumption and replacement, such as clothing products.

11) red goods (红色商品)

Red goods are such consumer goods that have a low profit margin but are consumed and replaced at a fast rate, such as food products.

12) yellow goods (黄色商品)

Yellow goods are such consumer goods that have a high profit margin but are consumed and replaced at a low rate, such as household goods.

13) Burn rate (烧钱速度)

Burn rate means the rate of spending the money. A new-established company has to invest in research, development and other aspects, and the rate of cash consumption is Burn rate.

14) eat what you kill (论功行赏)

The phrase is very popular in foreign companies, especially those in America. It refers to a remuneration model where the higher productivity an employee gives the higher compensation he/she gains.

15) eye service (眼前事奉)

Eye service refers to such employees who will not work until their boss or line manager is looking at or likely to look at them. Otherwise, they maybe do something unrelated to their job, such as surfing on the internet, playing the game or chatting with friends.
