Nepali, also known as Nepalese, is a language in the Indo-Aryan branch of the Indo-European language family, spoken in Nepal, the Kingdom of Bhutan, India, Burma and other areas. It is the official language of Nepal. About half of Nepalese use Nepali as their mother tongue and others as the second language.

Its pronounce is “Khaskura” and has used different names. Nepal’s diverse linguistic heritage evolved from four major language groups: Indo-Aryan, Tibeto-Burman, Mongolian and various indigenous languages isolates.

The ancient language of Nepal was formed in 14th century. In the late 18th century, the rise of Gurkha laid foundation for Nepal, as a result, the Nepali is sometimes called Gorkhali.

This language is similar to North Hindi, but it is a little conservative with fewer words from Persian and English than North Hindi. Many words of Nepali were derived from Sanskrit.

Learning the grammar of Nepali language is the study of morphology and syntax. In matters of script, Nepali uses Devanagari. There are some features, such as subscript dots for retroflex consonants; macrons for etymologically, contrastively long vowels; h denoting aspirated stops.

The 2001 census identified 80.6% of the population as Hindu and 10.7% as Buddhist. 4.2% of the population is Muslim and 3.6% follow Kirant Mundhum religion. Christianity is practiced by less than 0.5%. Buddhist and Hindu shrines and festivals are respected and celebrated by most Nepalese.
