The client is developing a sport app, and they have a handbook about the game and scoring. They provide us the texts in word file and let us localize it into simplified Chinese. The page layout of the files should be kept as it is and the texts are chopped into sections. As it is a sporting game, there are lots of specific terms that should be applied.

Our solution
After getting the files from the client, we have a general glance of those files and analyze them. We picked up the terms that should be used during the translation, together with the previous glossary for other projects we kept in the sporting field, and then create a termbase using SDL MultiTerm software. So when doing the translations, all of the translation for the terms will be followed strictly. We also maintained a translation memory and added it in the SDL Studio package.

About the project
The client is a mobile phone app developer. They require a translator to take an English app title, description & keywords and translate it into simplified Chinese. The client send us an excel file with all of the texts that need to be translated and they also list the instructions, and characters limitation.

Our Solution
1. CCJK carefully studied the texts of the APP and the instructions within the excel file, and then selected the linguists with the related experience to deal with the translation.
2. As there is a requirement that the Chinese translations cannot exceed 160 characters for each line, so when doing the translation, we should keep it as concise as possible in case that it will go beyond the limitation.
3. After the first around of translation is done, we assigned it to another linguist to edit the translation and make sure there is no errors and check if there is any places that exceed to the characters limitations and do her best to fix this problem. However, there are some places that cannot be translated within the restriction even carefully think of the alterative translation, so we reported to the client.
4. Finally, our project manager have a final checking all set of file and make sure everything is fine before the delivery. And we follow the client’s deadline strictly.

The client has some html files that need to be translated into Cambodian/Khmer. These html files should be used as email marketing. The client provides us with the files with some special instructions in word format. After the translations are done, the client need to layout the translations using Photoshop.

As they don’t know Khmer, so we should point out these places that need to be updated in jpg file and tell them how to update after the draft layout finished.

About the project

The Client has an English guide to bereavement that need to be translated into Hongkong Chinese. The translation is going to get a lot of exposure. It will be on public display and will be read by a lot of people. Needs to be perfect and convey an accessible, friendly, supportive feel to recently bereaved visitors.

Challenge

  1.  There are some small locked images sin the document; It should be translated by putting a text box over the image.
  2. Please honour the formatting and page breaks in the target text. If the source text contains three pages, then the target text should also contain three pages. If the target language ‘swells’ then please reduce the font size accordingly. The formatting must also be replicated in the target file (e.g. a word formatted in bold in the source file should equally be formatted in bold in the target file)
  3. Retain the project files names but add the language code to the end of the file name.

About the project
The client has a big file around 30,000 words that need to be translated into simplified Chinese. The texts is from the client’s website in the financial field. They save all of the texts that need to be translated in excel file and then create an .xlz package using idiom workserver workbench. The client need us to finish the translation within two weeks and deliver the translation in three batches.

CCJK Solution
Considering the tight deadline and the client specific requirement of delivering the translations in three batches, we assigned the project to two translators. But the problem comes, how can we combine the translations of these two translators translated and then send to the editor to edit and keep consistency? We also know that idiom workserver workbench cannot divide the files into several parts and then combine them together. We are thinking using the translation memory to combine it, but it is complicated and if we pre-translate the file, there may has some problems. Finally, we find that MemoQ is an ideal tool to deal with this kind of .xlz files and it can divide the file into several parts and then combine. We export the translation memory and termsbase in the idiom package and create a MemoQ handout package, and then we divide it into several pats and send these parts to the translators. Once the translation, editing and proofreading is done, we just need to import these parts back to the package and then export the translated .xlz file. During the translation process, we also found some strings that is uncertain, we submit a query log to the client.
